REPUBLICAN
VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE
SARAH PALIN
One might get from the explosive surprise of the media that Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin was a virtual "unknown," and was therefore thrust upon them as a convention shocker. From the files of NEWSWEEK, this article by Karen Breslau, about female governors in October of 2007, belies the claim that Sarah Palin came "out of nowhere."
Breslau says in the article: "...In Alaska, Palin is challenging the dominant, sometimes corrupting, role of oil companies in the state's political culture. "The public has put a lot of faith in us," says Palin during a meeting with lawmakers in her downtown Anchorage office, where—as if to drive the point home—the giant letters on the side of the ConocoPhillips skyscraper fill an entire wall of windows..."
